Cresswell marks the northern end of Druridge Bay, a long arc of dune-backed sand fringed by nature reserves reclaimed from old opencast mines. It’s terrific birdwatching country, with wetland pools that pull in wildfowl and waders through the year. The village has a well-known ice cream shop by the beach for afterwards. Widdrington station is about 5km inland.
