“The Couple” is a pair of larger-than-life bronze figures by Sean Henry, standing out on a raised platform in the bay at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea — reckoned to be Britain’s first permanent offshore sculpture, installed in 2007. They gaze steadily out to sea, best seen from the promenade or the beach itself. The work arrived as part of a scheme to rebuild the town’s eroding sandy bay.
