Creetown grew up as a granite port on the Cree estuary — the local stone was shipped off to build docks and lighthouses far away. The main draw now is the Gem Rock Museum, a cracking collection of minerals, crystals and fossils on the main street. The village sits on the coast road between Newton Stewart and Wigtown.
