Anwoth Parish Church is a plain Gothic “box” kirk built in 1826–27 to a design by the Dumfries architect Walter Newall, just outside Gatehouse of Fleet. It replaced the older church down the lane — now a roofless ruin — where the Covenanter minister Samuel Rutherford preached in the 1630s before his banishment to Aberdeen. Both are worth the short visit, and the old kirkyard is a quietly atmospheric spot.
