Cream o’ Galloway ice cream is still made in the region, but the old visitor farm at Rainton near Gatehouse of Fleet, once an ice cream parlour with an adventure playground, now runs as The Ethical Dairy. What you can visit today is the working organic dairy itself: farmer-led tours to meet the cows and see the cheese-making, usually on Tuesdays and booked in advance. Worth knowing if you’re arriving expecting the old family day out.
