Comrie sits right on the Highland Boundary Fault and feels more earth tremors than anywhere else in Britain, which earned it the nickname the “Shaky Toun”. The little Earthquake House out at The Ross has held a seismometer since 1840 and still records the shakes. Beyond the geology it’s a tidy, tree-shaded village in West Strathearn with good woodland walks. Nearest station is Gleneagles, about 19km south-east.
