Come to Charmouth for the fossils: the beach below its blue-grey cliffs, between Lyme Regis and Golden Cap, is one of the best places on the Jurassic Coast to find ammonites washed out after a storm. The Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre runs guided hunts and explains what’s safe to collect. The village behind is a relaxed row of Georgian and Victorian houses set back from the sea.
