For two centuries Ballachulish quarried the blue-grey slate that roofed much of Scotland, until the workings finally closed in the 1950s. The flooded quarry has since been landscaped into a quiet visitor spot with paths and information boards. The village sits on Loch Leven by the Ballachulish Bridge, a short hop from Glencoe.
