Below the Iron Age ramparts of Croft Ambrey, Aymestrey sits along the River Lugg where the water runs under a road bridge. You can climb the wooded scarp to the hillfort for long views over the Marches, then come back down to a well-regarded riverside inn with walking straight from the door. Leominster station is about 10km to the south-east.
