The Pigeon Tower is a tall, narrow folly standing at the top of the Rivington Terraced Gardens, which the soap magnate Lord Leverhulme laid out across the moor above his home in the early 1900s. The little top room was said to be Lady Leverhulme’s sewing retreat, with long views over the West Pennine Moors and the Rivington Reservoirs below. It’s a stiff climb up from the car parks, but free and open. Adlington station is the nearest, about 4km off.
