Below the moors near Rivington lies a chain of reservoirs built in the 19th century to slake Liverpool’s thirst, now ringed by paths for walking, cycling and riding. It’s one of the busiest corners of the West Pennine Moors on a fine weekend, with Rivington Pike and the Pigeon Tower standing above the trees. Free and open all year; Adlington station is under 3km away.
