The Old Man of Hoy is a 137-metre finger of red sandstone standing just off the cliffs of Hoy — one of Britain’s best-known sea stacks, and famously climbed live on BBC television in 1967, watched by millions. Reaching the viewpoint is a six-mile round walk in from Rackwick, with a stiff climb over the moor. The cliff edges out here are unfenced, so keep well back.
