The Devil’s Punch Bowl is a deep wooded hollow in the heath near Hindhead, once notorious for highwaymen on the old Portsmouth road. That road, the A3, now runs through a tunnel, so the valley is quiet walking country again, with a National Trust café at the rim. Haslemere station is about 3km south.
