A preserved steam railway through the High Weald, running restored engines and old carriages north from Sheffield Park up to East Grinstead
One of the first standard-gauge lines in the country to be saved by volunteers, the Bluebell reopened a stretch of closed railway through the High Weald and has run steam trains on it ever since. Standard gauge just means ordinary full-size track, and the line keeps a large collection of restored locomotives and Victorian and Edwardian carriages. Trains run north from Sheffield Park, through Horsted Keynes, up to East Grinstead, where you can change onto the main line. Sheffield Park and its landscaped garden are a short walk from the southern terminus and make an obvious pairing for a day out.
