The Blackcock Inn is a snug village pub at Falstone, close to the great dam that holds back Kielder Water. There’s a bar for a pint and a restaurant that’s earned a rosette, plus rooms if you’re making a weekend of the forest. The Pheasant Inn is another good option a mile or so on. It’s remote country — the nearest station, Bardon Mill, is over 20km south.
