Kielder Dam is a mile-long earth embankment holding back Kielder Water, the largest man-made lake in England by volume, completed in the early 1980s above Falstone. You can walk or cycle across the top, reservoir on one side and the Tyne valley dropping away on the other. A viewpoint and the Tower Knowe visitor centre sit close by, and Kielder Castle is round the water at the far end.
