William Kendall built the Barley Sheaf in 1837 — the story goes, out of spite, after the other publicans around Gorran barred him from their pubs. It started as a miners’ local and is now a well-regarded dining pub, on the lane by the church at Gorran Churchtown. The coves at Gorran Haven and Mevagissey harbour are both close for the day’s catch.
