Charlestown was built in the 1790s as a china-clay port and has barely changed since, which is why film crews keep coming — Poldark and Taboo among them. Tall ships often lie alongside the Georgian quays. The harbour forms part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and sits just east of St Austell, whose station is about 2.5km away.
