Overlooking the wide village green at Denholm, this old Borders inn began as an early nineteenth-century bakehouse before its coaching days, and still serves home-cooked local food by an open fire, with rooms upstairs. It makes an easy base for a day outdoors. Climb Rubers Law to the south-east, or pick up the Borders Abbeys Way from the edge of the village.
