Beinn Bhrotain sits deep in the southern Cairngorms, a big granite hill above the upper reaches of Glen Dee. It’s a Munro, a Scottish hill over 3,000 feet (914m), reaching 1157m, and it’s a broad, boulder-strewn dome rather than a sharp peak. Getting there is the main event: it’s a long walk in from the Linn of Dee, and most people pair it with Monadh Mor next door to justify the miles. The going underfoot is rough granite and the ground is featureless in mist, so it makes a full day for fit walkers with navigation to hand.
