West Norwood Cemetery is one of London’s “Magnificent Seven” Victorian garden cemeteries, opened in 1837 on a hillside in south London with sweeping views towards the City. Its Gothic chapels and mausolea, many now restored, sit among mature trees that have made it a haven for wildlife as well as history. It’s owned by Lambeth Council and free to wander during opening hours, gates closing at 6pm in summer and 4pm in winter. West Norwood station is a short walk away.
