Wimbledon Park
Open accessfree to visit at any reasonable time
Wimbledon Park is a large green space run by Merton Council, its centrepiece a nine-hectare lake originally landscaped in the 18th century. Much of the wider historic grounds later became a golf course next door, now owned by the All England Club and caught up in an ongoing public-access dispute rather than freely open. The park itself is open at any reasonable hour, with paths round the lake, tennis courts, an athletics track and a playground; boats are for organised watersports sessions only, not casual hire. Wimbledon Common is under 2km west, and Earlsfield station about 1.5km away.
