Highnam Court sits just west of Gloucester, a 1650s house with 40 acres of gardens laid out from the 1840s by the artist Thomas Gambier Parry. The centrepiece is a listed Pulhamite water garden — artificial rockwork grottoes and fernery built up between 1849 and 1862 — alongside lakes, shrubberies and thousands of roses. The gardens open on a handful of charity days through the year. Gloucester station is about 4km east.
