Eridge Park is reckoned to be Britain’s oldest enclosed deer park, recorded in Domesday and home to the Nevill family, Marquesses of Abergavenny, since 1448 — rare black deer still roam it. It isn’t generally open for a wander, but public footpaths cross the estate and it hosts country fairs, sporting events and charity galas through the year that let visitors properly inside. There’s also a summer campsite in the deer park itself. Eridge station is about 3km to the west.
