Below an Elizabethan house near Theale, the terraced garden at Englefield falls away in stone staircases and balustrades built in the 1850s and hung with climbing roses. Mixed borders and lawns give way to a woodland walk with long views over the deer park, while the house itself stays private. Unusually, the garden opens every Monday through the year, plus occasional National Garden Scheme days.
