Constable Burton Hall Gardens
Come in spring and Constable Burton is a picture, with drifts of daffodils and, later, tulips filling the terraced beds. The gardens wrap around a handsome Palladian hall designed by John Carr of York in 1768, near Leyburn in Wensleydale. The house stays a private family home, but the terraces, stream borders and woodland are open on set days through the season for a modest charge. Best timed for the bulbs; do check the opening dates before setting off.
