The City of London Cemetery is the largest municipal cemetery in Europe, laid out from 1855 by the engineer William Haywood on former farmland at Manor Park. More than 500,000 burials have taken place here since the first in 1856, among broad avenues and two Gothic chapels. It’s free to walk in during opening hours, no ticket needed. Epping Forest is a couple of kilometres west.
