The old church of St Werburgh’s at Warburton is a lovely oddity — part timber-framed, part sandstone, part brick — on the site of a short-lived priory of Norbertine canons founded around 1187. It’s now cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust rather than serving as the parish church, with services only in the summer months, so check ahead if you want to get inside. Glazebrook station is about 3km to the north.
