Climb the 89 steps, two ladders and a trapdoor to the top of St Helen’s tower for a wide view over the Broads and their marshes. Inside is one of England’s finest painted rood screens, from around 1450, along with the illuminated Ranworth Antiphoner, a 15th-century service book. Locals call it the Cathedral of the Broads. Open daily in Ranworth; Acle station is about 6km south-east.
