Norman minster famed for its carved Leaves.
Southwell Minster is the cathedral of Nottinghamshire and the only English church to keep its full set of three Norman towers — the twin “pepperpot” spires on the west front were finished by about 1170. The thing to seek out is the chapter house, where late-13th-century masons carved oak, hawthorn, maple and vine so exactly that the work has its own name: the Leaves of Southwell. It sits in the middle of Southwell, open and free to visit.
