Nigg Old Church, an 18th-century kirk on the Tarbat peninsula, shelters one real treasure: the Nigg Stone, an intricately carved Pictish cross-slab reckoned among the finest early-medieval stones in Europe. The church opens seasonally, so check before you go. It pairs well with Tarbat Old Church and its Pictish centre a few miles north.
