One of the grandest of the Suffolk wool churches, St Peter and St Paul stands at the edge of Lavenham on the profits of the medieval cloth trade. Its knapped flint-and-stone west tower climbs to 141 feet, paid for by the Spring family and John de Vere, Earl of Oxford, in the 1480s and 90s. Open daily, and hard to miss above the timbered town.
