If you’re staying in Kirkwall and want sand without a long drive, Scapa Beach is barely a mile out and easily the town’s handiest beach. You can walk to it along the Crantit Trail or drive in a few minutes. It’s a gentle stretch on the shore of Scapa Flow, with the pier where the lifeboat and dive boats set off from.
