Shaldon is a neat Georgian village of narrow streets and pastel cottages on the south side of the Teign mouth, across the water from Teignmouth — its station is about 2.5km away, over the bridge or by foot ferry. From near the green, a lamplit Smugglers Tunnel cut through the red cliff leads down to the quiet shingle of Ness Cove.
