Saltburn-by-the-Sea
Local highlightVictorian pier and cliff tramway resort.
Saltburn-by-the-Sea has the only surviving pleasure pier on the Yorkshire coast, and a water-balanced cliff lift — opened in 1884, one of the oldest of its kind still running — that carries you down from the town to the promenade and the surf beach below. The station is right in the centre. It’s a cheerful, characterful seaside stop at the northern end of the coast, popular with surfers.
