Osmotherley is the traditional starting point of the Lyke Wake Walk, the 40-mile moorland slog east to the coast, and the Cleveland Way passes through as well. The village has a handsome green with a squat five-legged stone barter table at its centre, where John Wesley once preached. It makes a good walkers’ hub on the western moor edge. Northallerton is the nearest station, about 10km south-west.
