A favourite with walkers, the Golden Lion faces the old market cross in Osmotherley, where the Cleveland Way comes through and the Lyke Wake Walk traditionally sets off. It’s a long-loved free house doing good food and a well-kept pint — a fine place to steady the nerves before a big moorland day, or to celebrate finishing one. Northallerton is the nearest station.
