Kirkoswald has a strong Burns connection: the men said to have inspired Tam o’ Shanter and Souter Johnnie are buried in the old churchyard, and Souter Johnnie’s Cottage — home of the village souter, or cobbler — is now a small National Trust for Scotland museum. The village lies a few miles inland from the coast, about 6km from Maybole station.
