Pull into the lay-by on the A719 south of Dunure, take the handbrake off, and your car seems to roll uphill — the Electric Brae is a gravity hill where the lie of the land fools the eye into reversing the slope. Eisenhower, staying nearby at Culzean during the war, used to bring visitors out to try it. Free, and open any time.
