Robert Adam built this clifftop mansion for the Kennedy family between 1777 and 1792, and when they handed it to the National Trust for Scotland in 1945 they set aside an apartment for General Eisenhower, who stayed there several times. Walled gardens, woodland and shore paths make up a large country park beside Maidens. The park is open year-round; the castle is seasonal and there’s an admission charge. Maybole station is about 7km east.
