Kingussie is the old capital of Badenoch, a granite main street on the upper Spey with the gaunt ruin of Ruthven Barracks standing across the river. It’s also serious shinty country: the local club, Kingussie Camanachd, was once named the most successful sporting team of all time by the Guinness Book of Records, after an unbeaten run through the 1990s. The station is right in the village.
