Hurley grew up around a Benedictine priory founded soon after the Norman Conquest; fragments survive in and around the parish church, and a monastic barn and dovecote still stand nearby. Down by the river there’s a lock and a popular campsite, and the timbered Olde Bell began as a guesthouse for the priory. Marlow station is about 4km to the north-east.
