Owain Glyndŵr was proclaimed Prince of Wales in 1400 from his nearby manor at Glyndyfrdwy, and Corwen remembers him with an equestrian statue in the square. It’s a small Dee Valley market town below the Berwyn mountains, once a stop on the drovers’ roads. The Iron Age hillfort of Caer Drewyn stands on the slope above, and Rug Chapel is just outside the town.
