Braemar is a Highland village in upper Deeside, ringed by the Grampian hills and best known for the Braemar Gathering — the Highland games held on the first Saturday in September, traditionally attended by the Royal Family with King Charles III as patron. There’s a restored castle just outside the village and endless hillwalking from the door. The Fife Arms is the landmark place to stay or eat. It’s a long drive west from Aberdeen, around 90km up the Dee.
