Royal Lochnagar is a small distillery on Deeside, a mile or so from Balmoral below the slopes of Lochnagar. It earned its ‘Royal’ name after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert walked over from the castle in 1848, and it has held a royal warrant ever since. Founded in 1845, it still runs tours from its visitor centre — book ahead, as it’s small. The Balmoral grounds are next door.
