Below Bisley’s steep stone lanes, seven water chutes pour from a bank beneath the church — the Bisley Wells, restored in 1863 by the vicar Thomas Keble, who revived the Ascension Day well-dressing that local schoolchildren still keep up each spring. The village sits high above Stroud, about 5km east of the station, and is open to wander any time.
