An Iron Age hillfort tops the common above Painswick, its old ramparts now shared with a golf course and clumps of pine. From the summit the ground falls away to a wide view over the Severn Vale and the Welsh hills beyond. Open access and free to walk; keep an eye out for stray golf balls where the fairways cross the common.
