Walltown Crags carry one of the best-preserved stretches of Hadrian’s Wall, running along the switchback whinstone ridge above Greenhead near Haltwhistle. It’s a fine, undulating length to walk, with the Wall following the crest exactly as the Romans intended. A car park at the nearby country park makes a good start, and Cawfields lies further east along the same line.
