Cawfields is a flooded former whinstone quarry beside Hadrian’s Wall near Haltwhistle, with a car park, picnic area and a short walk up onto the crags to the well-preserved Milecastle 42. It’s a gentle, family-friendly way onto the Wall, and links east along the ridge toward Steel Rigg and Walltown. The Milecastle Inn is close by for lunch.
