Old fishertown houses ring the sheltered harbour at Stonehaven, with fishing boats and yachts drawn up on the water. The 16th-century Tolbooth on the quay — once the county jail — now holds a small local museum. The town is famous for its Hogmanay fireballs, when swingers whirl blazing cages of fire down the High Street at midnight to see in the new year. The station is a few minutes’ walk from the harbour.
